The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has barred Aamir Liaquat Hussain from appearing on TV. The decision has been made after the former host and politician was accused of using Islam for his personal gain and for spreading hatred.
Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the IHC was hearing a petition requesting the court that Aamir be banned for lifetime on all medium including but not limited to print media, electronic media and social media. The judge however has banned him till the next hearing.
Aamir has hosted different programmes on television including morning shows, game shows, talk shows, and special transmissions on religious occasions. Aamir has always been a controversial figure notably for accusing people of blasphemy on TV.
The petitioner requested the court to declare that Aamir has used religion for personal gains and at the cost of the safety and well-being of various individuals by conducting repeated hate speech amounting to incitement to violence.
The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) also issued a notice to all channels notifying them of the IHC decision.
