Khawaja Asif’s resignation demanded by opposition

After Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif issued a bizarre and controversial statement supporting India , the opposition has demanded that he step down from his position.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI)’s legislator and opposition leader Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly, demanding Khawaja’s removal from his current position and also demanded that Khawaja Asif issue an explanation for his statement.

Asif had said that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif believed that friendship with India would bring benefits for both countries. The foreign minister added that people from both sides of the border were part of the “same stock”, but partition created two separate nations.

According to the resolution issued by the opposition , this statement tarnished the reputation of Pakistan in the international arena . He also said that these statements were being made to appease India and the United States and they were made to degrade the efforts of the military which has been protecting Pakistan against India’s threats.
