Iqbal day to be declared as public holiday

An application was filed in the lahore high court to redeclare Iqbal Day as a public holiday. Though Iqbal day has always been a public holiday, only recently has this day not been declared as a holiday.

Iqbal day is celebrated on 9th November every year as a tribute to Allama Iqbal. The government stopped giving a holiday on this day in 2015.

The application filed in the LHC has nominated the federal and provincial governments as respondents on the matter of declaring Iqbal Day as a public holiday.

The application has joined another similar application that is still pending in the court.

Last year the Interior Ministry gave authority to provincial governments to announce public holidays on their own accord. Owing to this , the sindh and KP government has declared that all private and public schools will remain closed on account of Iqbal Day.
