The JIT formed to investigate money laundering charges against the Sharif family has made some very interesting discoveries according to the report submitted to SC.
According to the report, PM Nawaz’s daughter Maryam Nawaz has allegedly submitted false documents to the JIT in order to cover up the money trail that was tying her family to money laundering charges. The evidence that gave away Maryam’s guilt was the fact that the documents that are supposed to be from 2006 used a Microsoft font that wasn’t available to the public till 2007. According to the JIT, this proved that Maryam had in fact made fake documents. Typography experts have argued that even if the font was available on a trial package or something, the chances of any official government or business document using a practically unused font was near to impossible. Experts have also said that while this is an unusual evidence, it was can be used to prove forgery.
Even the official creator of the font, Lucas De Groot gave his two cents to the whole discussion. “Why would anyone use a completely unknown font for an official document in 2006?” he questioned.
Let’s see if this mixup by Maryam Nawaz would be the final nail in the coffin for The Sharif family led government or will they manage to get out of this mess.
