{"id":10795,"date":"2024-11-19T13:59:21","date_gmt":"2024-11-19T08:59:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pakalerts.net\/english\/?p=10795"},"modified":"2024-11-19T14:12:32","modified_gmt":"2024-11-19T09:12:32","slug":"another-case-of-polio-has-come-to-light-in-pakistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakalerts.net\/english\/?p=10795","title":{"rendered":"Another case of polio has been reported in Pakistan"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health in Islamabad has confirmed another case of wild poliovirus (WPV1) from Pakistan.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The lab confirmed a case of polio in a girl from the Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, taking the number of cases to 50 this year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Genetic sequencing of the virus isolated from the collected samples revealed that it was genetically related to WPV1 detected in the same district in July.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This is the second polio case from Tank and the 50th polio case in Pakistan this year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">So far, 24 cases have been reported from Balochistan, 13 from Sindh, 11 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Tank is one of the most polio-affected districts in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and has reported several positive environmental samples as well as two cases this year, indicating that the spread of poliovirus remains a threat to children.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health in Islamabad has confirmed another case of wild poliovirus (WPV1) from Pakistan.
