ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari’s objections to the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F)\u2019s Seminary Registration Bill surfaced.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As per details, the president\u2019s concerns revolve around the bill\u2019s potential to create conflicts and undermine the existing laws governing seminaries.<\/p>\n

One of the primary concerns raised by the President is the contradiction in the definition of a seminary within the bill\u2019s various clauses. He also pointed out that the Madrassa Education Board Ordinance 2001 already exists, making new legislation unnecessary.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the registration of seminaries under the Societies Registration Act could lead to the misuse of these institutions for purposes beyond education. He also warned that this could worsen sectarian tensions and create conflicts within societies.<\/p>\n

The president\u2019s objections also mentioned the bill’s potential consequences on Pakistan\u2019s international relations. He cautioned that the passage of the bill could lead to low ratings from international organizations such as the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).<\/p>\n

In response to President Zardari\u2019s concerns, the government has initiated deliberations to address the issues raised. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is reportedly working to find a middle ground to resolve the controversy surrounding the bill.<\/p>\n

It is important to mention here that the passage of the Societies Registration (Amendment) Bill, 2024 was one of the conditions set by the JUI-F to support the 26th Constitutional Amendment.<\/p>\n

The parliament had passed the bill which was sent to President Asif Ali Zardari for his assent but he returned the bill to the National Assembly citing concerns.<\/p>\n
