Islamabad: The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and stressed the importance of sustained fiscal discipline, institutional reforms, and effective governance to ensure long-term economic stability in Pakistan.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister\u2019s Office, the meeting took place in Dubai on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2025.<\/p>\n

During the discussions, they reviewed Pakistan\u2019s ongoing IMF program and the macroeconomic stability achieved through government-led reforms. The talks highlighted Pakistan\u2019s commitment to implementing institutional reforms and maintaining financial discipline\u2014key factors in restoring economic stability and ensuring sustainable growth.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underlined the significance of progress under the IMF\u2019s Extended Fund Facility (EFF), which has played a crucial role in stabilizing Pakistan\u2019s economy and putting it on the path to long-term recovery.<\/p>\n

He reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining the momentum of reforms, particularly in tax restructuring, enhancing the energy sector\u2019s efficiency, and fostering private sector growth.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister assured Kristalina Georgieva of Pakistan\u2019s dedication to sustainable governance, effective policy implementation, and strategic planning\u2014essential components for achieving inclusive and long-term economic growth.<\/p>\n

The IMF Managing Director appreciated the Pakistani government’s efforts in effectively implementing the IMF-backed program, noting that the economy is now on a trajectory of stability and growth, with inflation rates declining.<\/p>\n

She also acknowledged Pakistan\u2019s economic recovery and praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif\u2019s leadership and personal commitment to advancing the country\u2019s reform agenda.<\/p>\n
