For the first time, Pakistan\u2019s Ministry of Maritime Affairs has issued a ferry service license to international ferry operator Sea Keepers<\/em>, allowing it to operate maritime routes connecting Pakistan with Iran and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The ministry described this development as a significant breakthrough in Pakistan\u2019s maritime sector.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the official statement, the license was granted following a high-level meeting of the Licensing Committee, which included representatives from the ministries of maritime affairs, defence, foreign affairs, interior, the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, and port and shipping authorities.<\/p>\n

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, called the decision a historic milestone, aligned with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif\u2019s vision and the national maritime policy. He said the move will open new chapters of international maritime connectivity for Pakistan.<\/p>\n

The minister emphasized that the license would foster regional connectivity, boost religious tourism, and enhance maritime trade activities. The new ferry service is expected to benefit millions of passengers annually\u2014particularly pilgrims traveling to Iran and Iraq\u2014as well as workers and tourists heading to Gulf countries.<\/p>\n

He added that the ferry service would reduce pressure on land routes and provide a cost-effective alternative to air travel, especially for overseas Pakistanis and religious travelers.<\/p>\n

Initially, the ferry operations will begin from Karachi and Gwadar ports, utilizing modern vessels equipped to ensure comfort, safety, and essential facilities for passengers. The number of routes and ports will be expanded later based on demand and mutual agreements.<\/p>\n

The minister further stated that the initiative is part of the government\u2019s strategy to promote the blue economy, improve trade logistics, and develop marine tourism, positioning Pakistan as a key player in sustainable and integrated maritime transport across the region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
