Protesters carried Khalistan flags and shouted slogans including \u201cDown with India\u201d and \u201cKiller Modi.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1695\" data-end=\"1945\">The Indian Embassy had organized a special Independence Day ceremony, but Sikh demonstrators arrived at the venue and encircled the embassy. During the protest, they tore the Indian tricolor flag into pieces and threw them in front of the building.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1947\" data-end=\"2120\">The protest left Indian diplomatic staff frightened, prompting them to call the police. Law enforcement officers remained at the scene for several hours to maintain order.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2122\" data-end=\"2433\">Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sandhu, head of the Khalistan Council, announced that a Khalistan Referendum would be held in Washington the following day.
