{"id":18768,"date":"2026-01-13T13:09:02","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T08:09:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pakalerts.net\/english\/?p=18768"},"modified":"2026-01-13T13:09:02","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T08:09:02","slug":"government-withdraws-special-economic-zones-amendment-ordinance-after-ppp-protest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakalerts.net\/english\/?p=18768","title":{"rendered":"Government Withdraws Special Economic Zones Amendment Ordinance After PPP Protest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"340\" data-end=\"564\"><strong>Islamabad: Following strong protests by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), the federal government has decided to withdraw the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) Amendment Ordinance, easing political tensions surrounding the issue.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"566\" data-end=\"857\">Earlier, the Pakistan Peoples Party staged a walkout from the National Assembly after the government issued the Special Economic Zones Ordinance without the signature of President <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Asif Ali Zardari<\/span><\/span>, calling the move unconstitutional and against parliamentary norms.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"859\" data-end=\"1082\">In response to the development, PPP Chairman <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Bilawal Bhutto Zardari<\/span><\/span> also announced the convening of a parliamentary party meeting to discuss the matter and determine the party\u2019s future course of action.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1084\" data-end=\"1413\">However, following the PPP\u2019s protest and political pressure, the government decided to withdraw the Special Economic Zones Amendment Ordinance.
