Karachi has been ranked among the world’s least liveable cities in the Global Liveability Index 2026 released by the Economist Intelligence Unit.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the report, Karachi ranked 170th out of 173 cities worldwide. Only Dhaka, Tripoli and Damascus were placed below Karachi, while Tehran, ranked 164th, and Kyiv, ranked 166th, secured better positions.<\/p>\n

The Economist Intelligence Unit said severe traffic congestion, overcrowded roads, crime and problems related to urban services negatively affect the rankings of major cities, contributing to lower scores for megacities such as Karachi.<\/p>\n

The Global Liveability Index assesses the quality of urban life across 173 cities based on key factors including stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.<\/p>\n

According to the report, Karachi received an overall score of 43 out of 100, equal to Algiers.<\/p>\n

The city recorded low scores in almost all categories, although its performance in education was relatively better.<\/p>\n

Karachi scored 20 for stability, 54 for healthcare, 36 for culture and environment, 75 for education and 52 for infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The report also highlighted the impact of the war between the United States and Iran on the rankings of several Middle Eastern cities.<\/p>\n

Following Iranian drone attacks, Muscat dropped 14 places to 123rd position, marking the biggest decline recorded by any city this year.<\/p>\n

Doha fell seven places to 108th, while Dubai and Abu Dhabi each dropped four positions to rank 79th and 76th respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
