{"id":23577,"date":"2026-09-03T12:43:58","date_gmt":"2026-09-03T07:43:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pakalerts.net\/english\/?p=23577"},"modified":"2026-09-03T12:43:58","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T07:43:58","slug":"flood-alert-issued-over-risk-of-glacial-lake-outbursts-in-gilgit-baltistan-kp-and-ajk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakalerts.net\/english\/?p=23577","title":{"rendered":"Flood alert issued over risk of glacial lake outbursts in Gilgit-Baltistan, KP and AJK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority has issued an alert over the risk of glacial lake outburst floods and landslides in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to NDMA&#8217;s National Emergencies Operation Center, monsoon rainfall and rising temperatures have increased the risk of glacial lakes bursting, potentially triggering flash floods in mountainous and low-lying areas.<\/p>\n<p>In Gilgit-Baltistan, Ghizer, Hunza, Nagar, Shigar, Gilgit, Roundu, Diamer, Astore, Skardu, Ghanche and Kharmang have been identified as vulnerable areas.<\/p>\n<p>Neelum Valley in Azad Jammu and Kashmir has also been declared at risk.<\/p>\n<p>In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Chitral, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan and surrounding mountainous areas face the risk of flooding and landslides.<\/p>\n<p>NDMA has issued the alert in view of the potential hazards and advised authorities to remain vigilant in vulnerable areas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority has issued an alert over the risk of glacial lake outburst floods and landslides in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
