Islamabad: Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said the Pakistan Peoples Party shows a soft corner when the creation of a Seraiki province is discussed but raises the issue of Sindhudesh when proposals for more provinces or administrative units are brought forward.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a statement posted on X, Khawaja Asif said he sees something else behind what he described as the PPP’s contradictory policy.<\/p>\n

The defence minister said the devolution of powers had been provided for through the 18th Constitutional Amendment but had not been fully implemented.<\/p>\n

He argued that the concentration of powers had made the existing system outdated, adding that whether new structures were called provinces or administrative units, the transfer of powers was unavoidable.<\/p>\n

Separately, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah said the Pakistan Muslim League-N believed that discussing new provinces at this stage was premature.<\/p>\n

He described recent speeches in the assemblies as unnecessary, saying resolutions similar to the one passed by the Sindh Assembly had also been adopted in the past.<\/p>\n

Rana Sanaullah said the intensity created around the issue of provinces was unnecessary and that the National Assembly had also been unnecessarily targeted during speeches in the Sindh Assembly.<\/p>\n

He added that the PPP was taking such positions for political reasons, while acknowledging that any division of Sindh remained an extremely important issue for the party’s politics.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
