Dubai: India Women head coach Amol Muzumdar has defended the team’s decision not to receive the Women’s Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi, saying the move was not against sportsmanship and that India remained the champions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

India defeated defending champions Sri Lanka on Sunday to win the Women’s Asia Cup for the eighth time.<\/p>\n

Following the final in Dubai, a presentation ceremony was held with ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi present on stage. However, the Indian team did not come onto the field for the presentation and did not collect the trophy.<\/p>\n

The ceremony was completed without the Indian side, while the ACC retained the trophy.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Muzumdar said the decision not to receive the trophy had been taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the team stood by it.<\/p>\n

He rejected suggestions that refusing to collect the trophy was against sportsmanship.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor us, the tournament is over. We are the champions,\u201d the Indian head coach said.<\/p>\n

Asked when India Women would receive the Asia Cup trophy, Muzumdar said the team had no information about when it would be handed over.<\/p>\n

He reiterated that the players had acted on the BCCI’s instructions in deciding not to receive the trophy.<\/p>\n

Muzumdar said the large display at the venue clearly identified India as the \u201cAsia Cup 2026 champions\u201d, adding that the tournament was therefore officially over for his side.<\/p>\n
