{"id":23983,"date":"2026-10-01T16:55:22","date_gmt":"2026-10-01T11:55:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pakalerts.net\/english\/?p=23983"},"modified":"2026-10-01T16:55:22","modified_gmt":"2026-10-01T11:55:22","slug":"government-plans-crackdown-on-one-million-non-filers-after-poor-response-to-retail-tax-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakalerts.net\/english\/?p=23983","title":{"rendered":"Government Plans Crackdown on One Million Non-Filers After Poor Response to Retail Tax Scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The government has decided to launch a crackdown on one million non-filers following the failure of its fixed tax scheme for retailers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Briefing a Senate committee, Federal Board of Revenue Chairman Rashid Langrial warned that retailers would face strict action if they did not enter the tax net.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani said the government would have to adopt a \u201ccarrot and stick\u201d policy.<\/p>\n<p>According to FBR officials, only 600,000 of the country\u2019s 4.3 million retailers are tax filers, while 3.7 million remain outside the tax net.<\/p>\n<p>The FBR acknowledged that its one per cent fixed tax scheme had failed to attract a satisfactory response from retailers.
