This includes $107.076 billion in public and publicly guaranteed debt, $17.58 billion in private non-guaranteed debt and $10.45 billion in short-term debt.<\/p>\n<p>Of the public and publicly guaranteed debt, $56.83 billion is owed to multilateral financial institutions, $42.43 billion to bilateral creditors and $7.8 billion to private creditors.<\/p>\n<p>China is Pakistan\u2019s largest individual creditor, with $22.4 billion outstanding. Other major creditors include the World Bank, at $19.2 billion, and the Asian Development Bank, at $16.83 billion.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, loans from official creditors have an average maturity of 16 years, a four-year grace period and an average interest rate of 3.6%. By comparison, loans from private creditors carry an average interest rate of 8.6%, an average repayment period of three years and a one-year grace period.<\/p>\n<p>Debt repayment and interest ratios improved in the MENAP region, comprising the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan. However, the region\u2019s external debt relative to gross national income increased from 26.7% to 29.4%. This was the largest annual increase recorded by any region in 2025, indicating a continuing rise in the debt burden.<\/p>\n<p>The World Bank said China extended the maturity of $2 billion in Pakistani debt in 2025. The International Monetary Fund also provided Pakistan with $2.3 billion under its Extended Fund Facility and Resilience and Sustainability Facility programmes to support the country\u2019s long-term economic stability.<\/p>\n<p>The continued increase in external debt has raised important questions about Pakistan\u2019s economy, debt repayment capacity and fiscal stability.
