{"id":8371,"date":"2024-08-06T17:32:12","date_gmt":"2024-08-06T12:32:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pakalerts.net\/english\/?p=8371"},"modified":"2024-08-06T17:32:12","modified_gmt":"2024-08-06T12:32:12","slug":"pti-chairman-announces-challenge-to-election-act-amendment-bill-in-supreme-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakalerts.net\/english\/?p=8371","title":{"rendered":"PTI Chairman Announces Challenge to Election Act Amendment Bill in Supreme Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ISLAMABAD: Opposition party PTI has announced to challenge the Election Act amendment law in the Supreme Court.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly PTI\u2019s chairman Barrister Gohar said, \u201cShehbaz Sharif should consult with Sheikh Hasina about the modus operandi and passage of fleeing from the country,\u201d PTI leader sarcastically said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you see large crowds of people yesterday, it will teach a lesson to the government, you will face the same fate as Hasina Wajid,\u201d the PTI chairman said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you won\u2019t give due place to a political party, the space will be filled by someone else,\u201d he said. The PTI founder\u2019s ideology has spread into the people, he added.<\/p>\n<p>It is to be mentioned here that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Bilal Azhar Kiyani presented the bill in the NA, proposing amendments to the Elections Act 2017 in order to bar lawmakers from changing their party affiliation at a later stage.<\/p>\n<p>The opposition protested against the passage of the legislation and tore copies of the agenda of the house.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation followed after the SC allotted reserved seats to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in a verdict.<\/p>\n<p>A 13-member bench of the top court, headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, ruled that the PTI is eligible for the allocation of reserved seats, dealing a major setback to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif\u2019s ruling coalition.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Mansoor Ali Shah announced the 8-5 split verdict, setting aside the Peshawar High Court\u2019s order wherein it had upheld the Election Commission of Pakistan\u2019s decision denying the reserved seats to the SIC.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Jamal Mandokhail, Justice Naeem Afghan, Justice Yahya Afridi, and Justice Ameenuddin Khan opposed the majority decision.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: Opposition party PTI has announced to challenge the Election Act amendment law in the Supreme Court.
