Today is the last date for the State Bank to release funds for elections in Punjab directly to the Election Commission on the order of the Supreme Court.
The State Bank has been directed by the Supreme Court to release funds directly to the Election Commission for Punjab elections. The deadline for this is today.
The court had ordered that the State Bank and the Ministry of Finance submit a report regarding the release of funds by April 18. The order stated that the Election Commission should also submit a report of the 21 billion rupees received by April 18 to the court.
According to the State Bank, there are more than 100 billion rupees in various government accounts. It is possible to release 21 billion rupees today.
On the other hand, the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Finance will hold an emergency meeting on this issue today. The legality of releasing funds for the elections without the approval of the National Assembly will be discussed.
The Standing Committee on Finance has directed Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to attend the meeting. The Law Minister, Commerce Minister, Auditor General, and Governor of the State Bank have also been invited to attend the meeting.
