After the Senate, the National Assembly also approved the 26th constitutional amendment.
The meeting of the National Assembly for the approval of the 26th constitutional amendment started at around 11:30 PM, which was adjourned at 11:55 PM and resumed at 12:55 PM.
Speaker Ayaz Sadiq chaired the meeting. Federal Law Minister Nazir Tarar presented the 26th Constitutional Amendment Bill in the National Assembly.
225 votes were cast in favor of the constitutional amendment bill, while 12 votes were against. During the clause-by-clause approval of the initial two clauses, the opposition members boycotted and walked out of the House.
6 dissenting members also voted in favor of the constitutional amendment, out of which five belong to PTI and one to QL.
The 26th Constitutional Amendment was approved by the National Assembly with a two-thirds majority. After the president’s signature today, it will become a formal part of the Constitution.
The session continued till 5:00 in the morning, then the session of the National Assembly was adjourned till 5:00 pm on Tuesday, October 22.
