Islamabad: 58% of cigarettes are being sold illegally in Pakistan, the Institute of Public Opinion Research has released a research report.
This has been revealed in the research report of the Institute of Public Opinion Research, the report states that only 19 out of 264 cigarette brands have a track trace stamp, 245 cigarette brands do not have a track and trace stamp.
About 58% of the total cigarettes consumed in Pakistan are sold illegally, with locally produced cigarettes accounting for 65% of the market share.
The report further stated that illegally smuggled cigarettes have a market share of 35 percent, with a pack of cigarettes being sold at a minimum of Rs 80 in the country.
The Institute of Public Opinion report said that 197 cigarette brands are being sold below the government's minimum price, while 166 brands of smuggled cigarettes are being sold in the country.
