Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria has questioned his country's cricket board's decision to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding India's tour of Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Recently the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made it clear that India will not tour Pakistan next year for Champions Trophy 2025.
According to BCCI, this decision has been taken in consultation with the Indian government.
However, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is not ready to accept the hybrid model proposed by ICC and BCCI. According to reports, he is instead trying to approach the CAS on the matter. Danesh Kaneria is not convinced of the move to appeal the matter to the arbitral tribunal.
Speaking to news agency IANS, he claimed that the PCB has the option of hosting the tournament through a hybrid model, as was the case in the Asia Cup last year. The problem had been going on for a long time that India would not travel to Pakistan due to political and other reasons. They have the option of a hybrid model like they did in the Asia Cup but things have to settle as Pakistan traveled to India for the ODI World Cup last year. If Pakistan goes to the International Court of Justice (CAS), what will it gain from it?” Dinesh Kaneria expressed the security concerns in Pakistan and said that “There is always security uncertainty in Pakistan.
International teams are coming but security concerns are high with the Indian team.” Dinesh Kaneria wants a hybrid model for Champions Trophy 2025. Speaking further on the issue, Dinesh Kaneria said that the hybrid model is the best option for both teams that India should play their Champions Trophy matches in Dubai and Pakistan should continue to play in their own country. He also said that Cricket fans in Pakistan want to see big international Indian players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah in action at their home ground.
