Lahore High Court has ruled on the petitions against Section 124-A of the Anti-Treason Law. The pleas against Section 124A were allowed by Justice Shahid Karim
The court declared Section 124-A of the Anti-Treason Law incompatible with the constitution, accepting the petitions against it filed by Justice Shahid Karim.
The decision was announced by Justice Shahid Karim, who had previously approved the petitions against Section 124-A. The petitioner’s position was that government lawyers had defended Section 124-A of the Anti-Treason Law, which was created in 1860 during the British era.
The petitioner further argued that the Anti-Treason Law was used to oppress slaves and was even filed against individuals based on hearsay. The position was taken that Pakistan’s constitution grants every citizen the right to freedom of expression in every city.
