Former Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas’s legal team has filed a new appeal in the Supreme Court against his disqualification on technical grounds.
The appeal will be heard by the full court, headed by Chief Justice Raja Saeed Akram, on Thursday.
During the hearing of the first appeal, the Chief Justice expressed surprise over the mention of Tanveer Ilyas as the Prime Minister and asked his lawyers if he was still the Prime Minister. The legal team challenged the disqualification in an immediate appeal if he still held the position.
The Chief Justice said that regardless of whether it is right or wrong, it is a separate question, but Sardar Tanveer Ilyas has been de-notified by the Election Commission in accordance with the decision of the High Court and until this decision is not annulled, its foundation remains.
The lawyers requested that the court consider the urgency of the matter and assume that he is being referred to as a “former prime minister.”
However, the Chief Justice said that they should not focus on such technicalities and file an appropriate appeal, which caused laughter in the courtroom.
The judge said that the appeal is being dismissed due to the appeal’s disqualification, but Tanveer Ilyas has the freedom to file a new appeal. This is not a joke; this is the Supreme Court.
