Inquiry commission established to investigate the leaked audio clips has halted further actions. Justice Faiz Esa remarked that this commission was formed under the Commission of Inquiry Act. They should have at least issued a notice. If it is a matter of respecting others, then there should be some respect for us as well. We are only slaves of Allah and no one else. If there were no oath-binding, I would have apologized and left.
Headed by Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, a three-member commission has been formed by the government to investigate the leaked audio tapes. Chief Justice Ameer Farooq of the Islamabad High Court and Chief Justice Naheem Afgan of the Balochistan High Court were part of the commission.
Attorney General of Pakistan, Mansoor Usman, appeared before the commission.
The Supreme Court has issued no order regarding the commission. Justice Faiz Isa stated, “The Supreme Court has not issued any order regarding the commission. Please provide us with a copy of that order.” Upon this, the Attorney General provided a copy of the order to the court.
Attorney General Mansoor Usman read out the court’s order from the previous day.
Justice Qazi Faiz Isa remarked, “If the Inquiry Commission was not given notice before the hearing, how can work be halted? According to the Supreme Court rules, a notice is given to the parties and then an order is issued after the hearing.”
“Why were you present in the courtroom yesterday? Was it a notice or were you sitting there casually?” Justice Qazi Faiz Isa questioned the Attorney General. In response, the Attorney General explained, “I was verbally informed that you would be present in the court. After the hearing, a notice was issued to me.”
Justice Qazi Faiz Isa remarked, “Did Shoaib Shaheen say yesterday that if any audio comes, send the matter directly to the Supreme Judicial Council? Shouldn’t the Supreme Judicial Commission resolve such complaints after verifying the authenticity of the audio? Destroying someone’s life without confirming the credibility of the audio is a serious matter. Who recorded the audio is a matter for later discussion.”
