The Islamabad Session Court has deferred the hearing for the case involving former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, regarding their marriage during the period of Iddat, to June 13. The court also postponed the hearing of the request for the suspension of the sentence.
Judge Afzal Kamju presided over the session, with the complainant Khawar Maneka present in court. During the proceedings, Khawar Maneka informed the court about his decision to change his legal team. Previously, Raja Rizwan Abbasi was representing Khawar Maneka.
Judge Afzal Kamju remarked that although a request for an expedited hearing had been received, the appeals process had not yet begun. In response, Khawar Maneka explained his predicament, stating that while his current lawyer, Rizwan Abbasi, is highly capable and skilled, his numerous commitments prevent him from continuing with the case. Consequently, Maneka wished to change his legal team, mentioning he had a few options, including a lawyer from Lahore, and requested the court for additional time.
Judge Kamju inquired about the amount of time needed, to which Khawar Maneka replied that he required at least a week to consult with a lawyer in Lahore. The judge granted this request, allowing Khawar Maneka to proceed with his legal team adjustment and asked him to return for the next court date.
Following this, Khawar Maneka left the court after marking his attendance.
Later, upon resumption of the hearing, lawyers from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), led by Sardar Masroof Talha Malik, appeared in court. They informed the court that a hearing was ongoing in the Islamabad High Court and requested a recess. Judge Kamju inquired about a suitable time for resumption, and Sardar Masroof suggested 12 PM, indicating that their lawyers would be available by then. The court agreed and took a recess until 12 PM.
When the hearing resumed, PTI’s lawyer Sardar Masroof Advocate appeared and informed the court that the Islamabad High Court had scheduled the hearing for the suspension of the sentence on June 13. He requested that the session court postpone its hearing until then.
Subsequently, the court, accepting Sardar Masroof Advocate’s request, adjourned the hearing to June 13.
