PDMA has issued an advisory regarding this year’s monsoon rains. According to the PDMA advisory, the monsoon rains are likely to start in the first week of July. More than usual rains are expected in some districts of Sindh, including Karachi.
In the first week of July, Karachi may receive 30 to 50 millimeters of rain. The PDMA advisory further states that in the second week of July, Karachi is expected to receive 35 to 75 millimeters of rain. In the third week of July, Karachi may receive 25 to 35 millimeters of rain, and in the fourth week of July, Karachi may receive 45 to 75 millimeters of rain.
The heatwave continues in Karachi, with the city still partially in the grip of a heatwave today. Yesterday was recorded as the hottest day of the year so far, with the temperature reaching 42 degrees. The sky is currently clear with intense sunlight prevailing in the city.
According to the Meteorological Department, the current temperature is recorded at 31 degrees Celsius, with the heat intensity felt as high as 36 degrees. The maximum temperature today is expected to reach up to 40 degrees Celsius, with the minimum temperature recorded at 30.5 degrees. During the daytime, the heat intensity is expected to be felt between 47 to 49 degrees. The Meteorological Department further states that the humidity level is 75 percent, and winds are blowing from the west at a speed of 16 kilometers per hour. The weather is expected to remain extremely hot and humid in the next 24 hours.
According to the Air Quality Index, the air quality of the city is better. Karachi has come to 12th position among the most polluted cities in the world and is 5th among the most polluted cities in Pakistan. The amount of polluted particles in the air is recorded at 87 particulate meters.
