As per the World Health Organization’s data, there are over 55 million people worldwide suffering from dementia. Each year, one crore new cases of dementia are reported, and it is the seventh leading cause of death among elderly individuals.
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, affecting 6.7 million people aged 65 and above in the United States alone.
A recent study revealed that individuals who consume half a tablespoon of olive oil daily have 28% lower chances of developing dementia compared to those who do not use olive oil.
The Role of Oleic Acid in Mental Health
Dr. Amal Khalil Kadoumi, a professor at Auburn University’s Harrison School of Pharmacy, conducted a study on the relationship between olive oil and Alzheimer’s biomarkers. Her 2022 study examined the effects of olive oil on dementia.
Dr. Amal Khalil Kadoumi and her team discovered that olive oil can protect the brain, improve memory, and reduce Alzheimer’s biomarkers. They highlighted the significant role played by oleic acid found in olive oil.
How much olive oil to use?
According to the research, it is recommended to consume a minimum of 2 tablespoons and a maximum of 3 tablespoons of olive oil daily.
