The Pakistan Army has taken former ISI Director General Lieutenant General (Retired) Faiz Hameed into military custody and initiated court-martial proceedings against him.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), in compliance with the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Pakistan Army conducted a detailed investigation to address complaints against Lieutenant General (Retired) Faiz Hameed in the Top City case. Following the investigation, appropriate disciplinary action has been initiated under the Pakistan Army Act.
ISPR stated that General (Retired) Faiz Hameed violated the Pakistan Army Act on multiple occasions after his retirement. Consequently, the process of a Field General Court Martial has been initiated, and Lieutenant General (Retired) Faiz Hameed has been taken into military custody.
Sources indicate that the Pakistan Army’s rigorous accountability process is unparalleled, and once again, it has been proven. The Army is recognized for its strict internal accountability mechanisms, as evidenced multiple times in the past. After the events of May 9, the entire nation witnessed how swiftly the Army’s rigorous accountability process came into action, resulting in the rapid sentencing of the relevant and responsible individuals within just a few days.
According to ISPR, several senior officers have previously faced severe penalties for violating Army rules and the Code of Conduct, and the legal action against Lieutenant General (Retired) Faiz Hameed is a continuation of this practice.
The Army has emphasized that this is not the first time such actions have been taken. The Army has repeatedly demonstrated its strict accountability process, which is unparalleled in any other institution. The Army has once again clearly shown that no one, regardless of their high rank, is above the law. Additionally, the Army’s accountability process is highly transparent and rigorous, swiftly addressing matters based on facts and evidence, and handling them strictly according to the law.
