Islamabad: The Supreme Court will announce an important decision today regarding the authority to announce the date of elections. The decision comes in the case of Punjab and KPK elections which was previously reserved by the Supreme Court.
The 5-member bench of the Supreme Court will hear the case at 11 am today. During the hearing, the Chief Justice said that no constitutional institution can extend the duration of the elections. No one has the authority to extend the electoral term except the court, and we also have to provide solid reasons. Conducting elections within 90 days is the spirit of the Constitution and we are not supporting any political faction. Political parties should consult on the date of the election.
