Sindh government has announced the launch of three new routes for the electric bus service between 13th and 18th April. One of these routes will commence from the Maritime Town Society, located in the suburbs of Karachi.
The Minister of Information in Sindh, Sharjeel Inam Memon, who is also responsible for transportation, stated that his government rejected the proposal to increase the fares of the People’s Bus Service due to rising inflation. In the holy month of Ramadan, three new routes for electric buses are being introduced.
The first of the three routes will cover the areas between the Asif Square in Sohrab Goth and Tank Chowk in Malir Cantonment, which will become operational on April 13th. The second route will take passengers from Maritime Town, Karachi, to Tank Chowk, Malir Cantonment, where they can transfer to buses on an existing route. This route will become operational on April 14th.
The third route, which will begin operations on April 18th, will start from North Karachi and travel to New Karachi, Asif Square, Ayesha Manzil, Guru Mandir, Empress Market, and I.I. Chundrigar Road. Memon said, “So far, every route of the People’s Bus Service covers an average distance of 30-40 kilometers at a fare of only Rs 50 per passenger, which is less than the cost of motorcycle fuel.”
He said that the Sindh government has so far provided Rs. 2,000 per person to more than 2,930,000 families.
