446 Utility Stores Shut Down Nationwide After Subsidy Withdrawal by Federal Government.
Following the federal government’s suspension of subsidies for utility stores, 446 utility stores across the country have been closed to reduce expenses.
Sources within the Utility Stores Corporation revealed that a plan to shut down over 500 more utility stores is also under consideration.
Despite the closures, sources claim that no employees will be laid off. Only those utility stores with low revenue and higher losses have been targeted for closure.
According to the sources, most of the affected stores are located in rural areas of the country.
It should be noted that the federal government ended subsidies for utility stores in August this year, limiting support to five essential items, including sugar, flour, and ghee.
Currently, the total number of utility stores across the country is 3,982.
