Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that those who took the law into their own hands during the protests will be punished according to the law.
The prime minister chaired a meeting of the task force formed to investigate the riots during the November 24 protest. Other senior officials attended, including Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahsan Cheema, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, and Advisor to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah.
During the briefing, the Prime Minister was informed that weapons, bullet casings, and other evidence from the November 24 protest had been collected from the crime scene. All evidence will be sent for forensic analysis, and the identification of the rioters present at the scene is being expedited. Once identified, all rioters will be presented before the courts.
Speaking to the attendees, the Prime Minister emphasized that weekly reviews will be conducted to track progress on legal actions against those spreading chaos in the country. He instructed that individuals who violated laws, damaged public property, and injured or killed law enforcement personnel during the protests must face appropriate punishments under the law.
The Prime Minister further condemned the rioters for staging an attack on the capital during the Belarusian President’s visit to Pakistan, calling it a source of immense embarrassment for the nation. He announced plans to establish a modern, internationally standardized anti-riot force in Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted the need to upgrade Islamabad’s Safe City project to international standards by integrating a forensic lab, ensuring the availability of all necessary resources for this purpose.
