Karachi: Federal Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan has said the existing Karachi Hyderabad road does not meet the standards required to be called a motorway, announcing that work on a new motorway connecting Sukkur, Hyderabad and Karachi will begin this year.
Speaking at a press conference after negotiations with transporters at the Governor House in Karachi, Abdul Aleem Khan said the existing Karachi Hyderabad road could not be considered a motorway in its current condition.
The federal communications minister announced that construction work on a new motorway from Sukkur through Hyderabad to Karachi would begin during the current year.
Aleem Khan said the government did not want to become involved in any matter that could create unnecessary controversy.
Speaking about negotiations with transporters, the minister said issues that could be resolved immediately had already been addressed.
He added that some demands required formal procedures before they could be implemented and that different committees had been formed to take those matters forward.
