Rawalpindi: Heavy rainfall in Rawalpindi and Islamabad has inundated several low lying areas, while the water level in Nullah Lai reached 17 feet at Katarian.
Torrential rain caused widespread water accumulation across the twin cities, affecting roads and residential areas. Golra received the highest rainfall at 144 millimetres, followed by Bokra with 132 millimetres.
According to rainfall figures, Pir Wadhai received 105mm of rain, Gawalmandi 77mm, Kutchery 60mm and Shamsabad 41mm.
The heavy downpour also caused a significant rise in Nullah Lai, with the water level reaching 15 feet at Gawalmandi Bridge.
Rainwater entered homes in low lying localities including Dhok Khabba and Sadiqabad, causing difficulties for residents.
The district administration has advised people living near Nullah Lai to remain cautious and closely monitor the situation.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for the upper and central parts of the country from today until August 21.
According to the Met Office, rainfall is expected in Islamabad, upper Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir.
The Flood Forecasting Division Lahore said low level flooding was being recorded in the Indus River at Tarbela Dam, Kalabagh, Chashma, Taunsa and Guddu Barrage, while conditions in the country’s other rivers remained normal.
