The Sindh Drug Testing Laboratory has declared 79 samples of various allopathic and herbal medicines as well as syringes to be substandard and counterfeit.
The Sindh Drug Testing Laboratory has issued a testing report of medicine and syringe samples collected between January and July 13. According to the report, out of 2,461 samples, 79 were found to be not meeting the approved quality standards.
The report stated that 30 auto-disable syringes were found to be substandard and counterfeit. Auto-disable syringes are designed for single use only; however, some supplied syringes were found to be not completely compliant with the auto-disable requirement. Due to their poor quality, there is a risk that these syringes may be reused.
Director Sindh Drug Testing Laboratory Dr. Syed Adnan Rizvi said that using the same syringe on different patients increases the risk of infections and can affect the treatment process. He added that the use of quality auto-disable syringes can help prevent the spread of HIV, hepatitis, and other blood-borne diseases.
The report further stated that the presence of allopathic ingredients was detected in 20 herbal products in Sindh, while 9 medicines were not registered with the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan.
