Microsoft is reportedly preparing to announce another major round of layoffs next week, with more than 5,500 jobs worldwide potentially at risk.
According to a report by Business Insider, the planned job cuts would affect less than 2.5% of Microsoft’s global workforce. The reductions could impact multiple divisions, including sales, consulting and the Xbox gaming business.
As of June 30, 2025, Microsoft employed approximately 228,000 full-time workers worldwide. If the layoffs remain below 2.5% of the workforce, the total number of affected employees would be fewer than 5,700.
Microsoft has not officially confirmed the reports. However, sources say the company is considering restructuring measures aimed at improving operational efficiency and reducing costs.
The company continues to invest heavily in artificial intelligence and cloud computing while expanding AI-powered products and building new data centers around the world to meet growing demand.
Industry analysts say Microsoft and other major technology companies are increasingly shifting resources away from traditional business operations toward artificial intelligence, software development and cloud infrastructure.
