Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has approved in principle to set the price of cotton at Rs 8500 per maund this year. Cotton is the foreign exchange earning crop of Pakistan.
A review meeting of the Agricultural Task Force was held under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, in which a detailed discussion was held on increasing cotton production and fixing the support price.
The Prime Minister has directed that the support price of cotton should be submitted to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) for approval soon.
Shahbaz Sharif said that the provincial governments should ensure the supply of cotton to the farmers at the fixed price, the government is taking steps on priority basis to increase the production of cotton per acre, cotton is the foreign exchange earning crop of Pakistan
