Islamabad: Federal Law Minister Nazir Tarar has said that the Constitution allows the extension of the supervisory seat and the delay in the election. There is scope in this regard.
Federal Law Minister Nazir Tarar said that there is scope in the constitution to extend the term of caretaker governments. The extension of the tenure of caretaker governments depends on the circumstances. Due to the floods in 1988 and the martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto in 2007, the Election Commission had changed the date of the elections in consultation with the stakeholders.
Azam Nazir Tarar said that the Election Commission will probably look into the issue of election expenses and census. All the decisions have to be made by the Election Commission, it will give the date of the elections keeping in mind the Constitution and the Election Act. It is too early to say under which census the elections will be held.
He said that the announcement of the new census is awaited, the election commission has been established on the advice of the government during the PTI government and the Chief Election Commissioner is the nominee of Imran Khan. If the merit of the election commission is not coming to the forefront, then there is no excuse for anyone.
