Karachi: The ongoing goods transport strike has suspended the supply of raw materials to industries, raising serious concerns over the possible shutdown of industrial units.
Iron Merchants Association President Hammad Poonawala stated that the unavailability of goods due to the transport strike has severely disrupted industrial operations. He warned that if the situation continues, many industries could be forced to shut down. According to him, iron traders and importers of various goods are already facing losses amounting to billions of rupees.
He urged the Transporters Association to take immediate steps to resolve the issue in order to prevent further damage to the industrial sector.
Meanwhile, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Rehan Hanif said that the goods transport strike has pushed industries across the country to the brink of collapse. He added that raw material supplies have been halted due to a lack of space at the port, and there is a serious concern that ships may not be able to dock today and tomorrow because of congestion, which could further worsen the situation.
