Senior lawyer Latif Khosa has said that this is the darkest day in Pakistan’s history, as the government has openly declared that they do not recognize the judiciary and the constitution.
Speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court, he expressed his opinion on the breaking up of the Supreme Court’s 7-member bench. He stated that the federal government had already stated that they would not accept it.
Latif Khosa stated that even Chief Justice Omar Ata Bandial was surprised by the objection raised against Justice Mansoor Ali Shah. Lawyers do not accept this action; it is a matter of fundamental human rights and cannot be objected to.
On this occasion, senior lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan also spoke to the media and announced action against those who do not accept the Supreme Court’s decision. He demanded that the Supreme Court render those who engage in character assassination inadmissible instead of accepting the court’s decision on elections.
Aitzaz Ahsan further stated that a penalty of 50 million rupees should be imposed on those who go against the decision, and all individuals making statements against the verdict should be punished for contempt of court.
It should be noted that today, during the hearing of petitions against trials of civilians in military courts in the Supreme Court, the 7-member bench was dissolved after objections were raised by the federal government. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah had himself excused himself from the bench, stating, “I never sit on a bench when there is a suspicion of bias against me.”
