Former provincial minister and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Memon has stated that the incumbent government will have to move towards targeted subsidies.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Sharjeel Memon said that the freedom of the press and the revival of democracy are crucial for the PPP. The solution to the country’s issues lies with the leadership of the PPP, and it is this party that can save the people from the storm of inflation.
He said that the PPP has provided relief to the people, and the people have voted for them. We have provided free healthcare facilities to the people.
Sharjeel Memon stated that people are struggling with high electricity bills, and the thought of affordable electricity first came with Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. Cheap electricity is being generated from Thar to deal with the issues, and targeted subsidies will have to be provided to the poor and laborers to deal with the problems.
The PPP leader said that the incumbent government will have to move towards targeted subsidies. It is not possible to provide subsidies only for petrol; subsidies should be given to the poor, laborers, and farmers, not to the capitalists.
He further said that development projects cannot be stopped if the elections are not scheduled. The reason for inflation is the violation of IMF agreements.
