Ankara, Damascus: The death toll from the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria has reached more than 34,000. Thousands of people have been injured.
The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority announced that the number of victims of the earthquake that hit the south of the country last week has increased to 29,605. Turkey’s official “TRT” channel said with reference to disaster management that 147 thousand and 934 people have been moved to safe places.
On the other hand, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has said that the death toll in Syria has reached 5,273. The number is expected to reach 7,000.
Yesterday, search and rescue operations for survivors buried under the rubble in northwestern Syria came to a halt and they have reached the stage of extricating bodies after several days of continuous search for survivors of the devastating earthquake.
