Islamabad: The government has decided to increase the prices of petroleum products to the public by Rs 32 per liter. This increase is expected from tomorrow, Thursday, February 16.
Petroleum levy on diesel is also being increased by Rs 10 per litre. Thus, the total increase will be 50 rupees per liter. The main reason for this is the uncontrollable increase in the exchange rate of the dollar, which has become about 272 rupees.
According to the relevant authorities and industry sources, the price of petrol will increase by 12.8% to Rs.281-87 and diesel will increase by 12.8% from Rs.262.8 to Rs.295.64 per liter.
Kerosene will be Rs 217.88 per litre, light diesel will be priced at Rs 196.90 per litre. These prices are based on the volume of government taxes. The levy on diesel which is Rs 40 per liter will be increased by Rs 10 to Rs 50 per litre.
The target is to get 850 billion rupees from these increases, but the shortfall in this regard is estimated at 250 billion rupees. The government has increased the prices of petroleum products by Rs 35 per liter from February 1 to 15.
