Syrian rebels, after taking control of the capital Damascus, announced a general amnesty for all prisoners on state television and released them.
According to Arab media, the head of the Syrian rebel group, Abu Muhammad al-Julani, announced his victory on state television, stating that the long rule of Bashar al-Assad’s government in Syria has come to an end.
Arab media reported that the Syrian rebels assured the sovereignty and integrity of a free Syria, saying that after ending the dark era, a new era is about to begin. They pledged to protect all public and private properties and installations in Syria.
The head of the rebel group Tahrir al-Sham, Abu Muhammad al-Julani, issued directives advising the public and former government soldiers to avoid state institutions.
According to a foreign news agency, citizens celebrated in Umayyad Square, with Syrian civilians climbing on Syrian army tanks. The rebel militia faced no resistance in Damascus.
