In Lahore, the protectors turned out to be robbers as police officers kidnapped a trader from Sindh, subjected him to torture, and extorted Rs. 100,000 by threatening to kill him in a staged encounter.
On the night of April 29, five uniformed officers from the Qila Gujjar Singh Police’s Muhafiz Force set up a checkpoint on Abbott Road and stopped trader Mushtaq Ahmed, who had arrived from Sukkur, at gunpoint and abducted him to a deserted area.
According to police, the trader was tortured and threatened with being killed in a fake encounter.
CCTV footage showed two uniformed officers taking trader Mushtaq Ahmed on their motorcycle. Upon reaching Neela Gumbad, Anarkali, the officers stopped outside a bank where the trader withdrew cash from an ATM. After receiving the money, the officers fled, leaving the trader on the roadside.
Upon the trader’s complaint, Old Anarkali Police registered a case against the five officers from the Muhafiz Force.
According to police officials, all five suspects have been identified and raids are being conducted to arrest them.
