Islamabad: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has clarified that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is not obstructing the notification of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), calling the circulating impression “factually incorrect.”
Speaking at Parliament House, Rana Sanaullah said that Nawaz Sharif’s remarks are unnecessarily being linked to the CDF issue, even though he has never expressed any objection regarding the establishment or notification of the new defence structure. He added that the comments made by Nawaz Sharif were taken out of context and were related to a different matter altogether.
He stated that all constitutional amendments were approved with the consent of the party leadership, and linking any resistance to Nawaz Sharif was misleading. Rana Sanaullah explained that there is a difference between a matter being “under consideration” and being “decided,” and that a crucial institution like the CDF should not have its notification rushed.
According to him, once the Prime Minister returns from his foreign visit, the process will proceed in line with the time required. He added that the notification will follow constitutional, legal, and procedural steps, all of which demand careful attention.
He further explained that, under the new constitutional amendment, the CDF’s five-year term will begin on the day the notification is issued.
Commenting on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Rana Sanaullah said that when any matter is handled with threats or protest tactics, the law responds accordingly. He criticized PTI leaders for giving statements on Indian TV channels and issuing threats, stating that such actions will be dealt with under the law.
He said PTI should have acted sensibly. Their delegation had come to meet the Speaker, and he had advised them to wait for the Prime Minister’s return. However, soon after, threatening statements emerged from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, making it impossible to allow a meeting under such conditions.
