Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Suhail Afridi has issued a strong challenge to the federal government, stating that if it has the courage, it should attempt to impose Governor’s Rule in the province. He said the provincial leadership does not fear any such move.
Speaking to the media, CM Afridi remarked that the province is already under the political influence of PTI founder Imran Khan, and therefore “no other rule is needed.” He said that if anyone believes they have the strength, they should try implementing Governor’s Rule.
Responding to a question on law and order, the Chief Minister said that those who try to impose closed-room policies on KP should understand the regional realities and sentiments of the people.
Earlier, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar had also said that he sees no possibility of Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Separately, PTI leader Salman Akram Raja told reporters that the Constitution only allows the imposition of Governor’s Rule if a provincial government has completely failed. He said the Constitution is clear that governance in the province lies with elected representatives, and KP currently has an elected Chief Minister and cabinet in place.
He added that Suhail Afridi has been elected with a strong majority and there is no constitutional justification for the federal government to attempt to impose its own representative on the province.
