A case has been registered against Bihar Chief Minister and BJP ally Nitish Kumar following an incident in Patna, where a Muslim woman doctor’s veil was forcibly pulled during a public event.
According to foreign media reports, Samajwadi Party leader Samia Rana filed a complaint in Lucknow against Nitish Kumar, prompting authorities to initiate legal proceedings in the matter.
The affected doctor, Nusrat Parveen, has refused to join employment under the Bihar government. Her brother stated that she is deeply traumatized by the incident and has decided not to work for the state administration.
The incident has also drawn strong condemnation from Amnesty International India. The human rights organization stated that forcibly removing a woman’s hijab or veil by a public official constitutes a serious violation of her dignity, identity, and personal freedom.
Amnesty International further noted that such actions not only infringe upon women’s fundamental rights but also contribute to an atmosphere of fear and insecurity within society.
It is worth noting that the incident occurred two days ago and has since been widely condemned by Indian political leaders, journalists, and human rights organizations, who described it as shameful and unacceptable.
