Prince Andrew, the brother of King Charles III and a former British prince, has been released after being taken into custody, while discussions continue regarding the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
According to British media reports, he was seen leaving the police station seated in the back of his vehicle. Reports indicate that he was arrested in the morning on suspicion of allegedly providing confidential government documents to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and during his detention, he was reportedly treated like an ordinary detainee.
The Crown Prosecution Service has stated that the maximum penalty for such an offense could be life imprisonment; however, reports suggest that the likelihood of a life sentence in Prince Andrew’s case appears to be low.
Media outlets further reported that he was not granted any special immunity from legal proceedings or potential imprisonment and that neither the King nor Buckingham Palace had been informed before the arrest.
It is also being reported that he is the first member of the British royal family to be arrested in recent times, making the matter particularly significant.
