President Asif Ali Zardari has stated that eliminating exploitation and ensuring equality within society is a fundamental responsibility of the state, and the government remains committed to fulfilling its constitutional and moral obligations in this regard.
In his message issued on the occasion of the World Day of Social Justice, he said that the Constitution of Pakistan guarantees social justice and that protecting vulnerable and marginalized segments of society is among the government’s top priorities to ensure they have access to equal opportunities for a dignified life.
The President noted that the budget of the Benazir Income Support Programme has increased to Rs716 billion, under which financial assistance is being provided to 10 million households to help them cope with economic challenges.
He added that the government is determined to ensure access to health, education, and food, while special attention is being given to welfare initiatives for senior citizens, women, persons with disabilities, and youth so that all segments of society can benefit from equal facilities.
President Zardari further stated that welfare programs initiated by provincial governments are part of broader federal efforts aimed at strengthening the social protection system through coordinated measures.
He highlighted that inflation and climate change remain major challenges facing the country, emphasizing the need for effective utilization of resources and comprehensive reforms to address these issues.
The President also remarked that social justice is a cornerstone of sustainable development and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the United Nations theme of “Empowering Inclusion” to ensure that all members of society are actively included in the development process.
Expressing concern over violations of fundamental rights in Kashmir and Palestine, he stated that justice cannot be selective and urged the international community to play its due role, stressing that a fair and just society forms the true foundation of peace and prosperity.
